BOEING - MAJOR FACTORY IN THE AREA AND VOLUME IN THE WORLD

The Boeing plant is located in Everett, near the city of Seattle, Washington. It is the largest building in the world in area and volume having total area of ??399,480 square meters, or 415 hectares or 13,385,378 cubic meters - as they usually describe its volume. In this factory are built the large aircraft of Boeing: This is where the Boeing 747, 767, 777, and 787, the latest Dreamliners assembled.

Thats why the factory building is so colossal; To be able to shelter all these giants, from the beginning of the assembly until the finalization of the aircraft. The projects for the plant were first announced in 1966, their maintenance and extensions started in 2016, where they are building the Boeing 787. One of their biggest customers was Pan Am ordering 25 Boeing 747. The factory includes a BECU subsidiary and Several coffees for use by staff. On the other side of the airport, heading west, is the Boeing Store.

The factory with a size of this gigantic size, the number of employees to make everything run is respectively high. There are about 41 thousand people working in the area, and the hours of service are divided into three shifts. Even so, their exit times are staggered to avoid traffic chaos on the roads surrounding the factory. To keep the factory and its workers running smoothly, the place is basically self-sufficient minicity.

It has its own highway, its own train station, fire department, security forces, water treatment plant, bank, medical center, childrens daycare, five stands of a coffee network called Tullys Coffee, in addition to 19 other snack bars and restaurants serving around 17,000 meals a day. Most of the work done on Everetts colossal unit is assembly of the aircraft, meaning that teams receive parts of completed parts from other factories to assemble them.

Smaller parts arrive by trucks and trains, while larger parts (like Dreamliners entire wings) come straight from Italy and Japan aboard 747 modified cargo planes called Dreamlifters, Boeing has four aircraft continuously flying around the world, Transporting parts to Everett. The factory has its own port, where some large pieces arrive. As soon as the pieces land at the factory, they are taken to one of the huge assembly docks. Each type of aircraft has its own part of the factory and are assembled differently.

The 777 is built on an assembly line that is continuously moving at a speed of about five centimeters per minute. The process begins well before the aircraft has the wheels installed, so the parts are carried in giant rolling structures while the engineers work with them. Computerized stations stay at specific points in this passage to make sure nothing is left behind.

The completion of the entire assembly process ends with the painting. Each airplane receives the colors of the airline for which it is intended. Within this factor most companies use predominantly silver or white color schemes because these are the colors that weigh less.

That way, not adding other more intense colors can save hundreds of pounds of weight, which in turn saves even a small but significant amount of fuel over the life of the aircraft. Photos and filming are not allowed for visitors, staff and the press.
